a properly fit and skilled vargur with implants gets over 1200dps. thats closer to 40% more dps over an ishtar and roughly the same increase in income. then theres the loot/salvage. if you have the security a marauder should be pretty epic in null.

I use two tractor t2 and a salvager t2 and 5 salvage drones and a mtu. salvage and loot accounts for around half my income in most missions. more in eom/merc missions. I dont salvage drone missions though.
